We spent this past weekend upstate at my Mom’s.
& I couldn’t have asked for a better drive up.
Our trip is around 3.5 – 4 hours and the boys slept for the first 2.5 hours. We stopped in Albany to break up the trip, and get a quick bite to eat at one of my favorite sushi restaurants, Yoshi’s Sushi. (If you’re ever near Albany, and love sushi – go there!) I’ve been going since I was 15 years old when my Dad lived there.
Visiting your childhood home with two of your own babies is a much different experience. We of course, also went to my Gram-Gram’s house (which is 3 short blocks away) and seeing Kai & Rowan play with the same toys, in the same rooms that I did when I was his age was a bit surreal. I bet it’s even more surreal for my Grandparent’s seeing my little mini-me playing in their house when they can remember seeing me doing the same, 25 short (haha) years ago.
^ My Gram-Gram & I when I was a little older than Kai is now ^
Our trip upstate was revolved around Rowan’s baptism.
Kai was baptized a little over a year ago, and they were both baptized in the same church that I was. It was a very beautiful ceremony, and both Rowan, & Kai couldn’t have been more well behaved during the entire service. That may never happen again, but right now I’m going to bask in the glory of having well behaved children at church.
Rowan was happy all day long.
We had so many people come up to us after church to remark what a happy, and well behaved, sweet baby he was. These remarks never, ever get old to me. I love seeing the joy that Rowan, and Kai bring to people. It makes me happy on a whole other level.
^After the service, the boys played downstairs at church.
It’s the same nursery school I attended many, many years ago. ^
^All the festivities tired my little man out. ^
On Sunday morning, the roads were covered with ice from the freezing rain, so after church, we had to cancel our brunch reservations & instead, organized an impromptu after party at my Gram-Grams. In the end, I was really happy with how the change of plans turned out. We were able to chat, play and all be near each-other, instead of being more formal and constrained at a restaurant & my Gram has the cutest little fire place which always makes everything feel 100x more cozy.
Kai took on the role of bartender.
I think he was inspired by his bow-tie.
My Uncle Bill, who is probably the sweetest, & kindest Uncle in the entire world took Kai downstairs to show him his fully working collector trains and Kai was in his happy place. I took a couple videos of Kai watching the trains, & Kai couldn’t stop watching them before bed last night saying “Choo Choo! Unck-el Bill’s Choo Choos!”.
